few comments by an apostolic team member: |
When I first saw Rabbi (and then Minister of Tourism) Benjamin Elon's "Right
Road to Peace" in June of 2003, my Spirit knew the plan could only be from God.
In its simplicity and boldness, it articulated common sense goals and identified
the real issues.
If not from God, why would a member of the Knesset draft something that was
considered naive at best and that was counter to everything else being proposed
by the "best the West had to offer"? Why would someone in a position of power in
Israel put everything on the line and step out with a plan that he knew most
people would disregard? The Answer is that if Scripture has dictated the Plan,
then there can be no other Way. Can Oslo or the Tenent Plan or the current
plan
of the moment, or any revisions thereof, claim any scripture as their
foundation? Quite probably, they would not even wish to associate with
scriptures.
The movement to stand with Israel, started over 25 years ago by bold Christians,
has stepped into maturity. A signal of that maturity is our resolve to move
forward the understanding of key issues and promote America's change of
direction to support the Elon plan.
This war cannot be relegated to the few who are passionate about this issue- it
is an honor and it is our responsibility - at this time and in this place - to
stand against the division of the Land - this "disengagement". We are not as much
standing against the evil that is trying to destroy Israel, but rather, we are
standing with a Living God who is not as distant as some would hope. I believe
we, Christians who claim to stand with Israel, will be held accountable if we
do not move in solidarity on this issue. - Terre Lidstone
For just over half of a century, the world has witnessed a great
unfolding miracle.
Its
name is
ISRAEL
Born of the chaos of a world
that had just survived the struggle of a global war that eclipsed anything
imagined, Israel was created. In 1948, that same world carved out a nation,
created for a people who had been refugees for almost 2000 years. Repeatedly,
over the next decades, those who populated that new little scrap of land had to
rally to defend it. Multiple times they proved that they could not only defend
it, but even expand its borders when challenged.
Israel is a work of Spirit. Conceived in the utterances of prophetic voices that
echo into this century from millenniums ago, Israel’s destiny must prevail. The
world theatre has witnessed over a decade of madness and murder unleashed upon
the occupants of this tiny nation. All of this has been done in the name of a
vain and confused claim of a renegade people who have massed together for no
other purpose than to eradicate another people group who call themselves Jews.
The Arab nations that had been unsuccessful at direct confrontation with Israel
in the 1960’s and 70’s finally found a “puppet” method to advance their claim
through terrorism and media persuasion. They became successful at rallying a
busy and indifferent world who thought that a few patches initiated by western
diplomats would close this ugly chapter.
The same world who rose in outrage and sent armies to war against the genocide
of Jews practiced in the ghettos and ovens of Poland and Germany, has in this
era, sent only statesmen to deal with an irrational enemy. These modern madmen
are repeating the same atrocities upon the same people group although lacking
the blatant courage or skill of a Hitler. Evil of this proportion has always
confounded people who reside where human dignity and life are still held dear.
As a result, we often tolerate evil in operation since we are unable to conceive
of its depraved motives or existence. But the time to turn our head and pretend
that terror’s vicious bite will confine itself within the borders of the Middle
East is over.
Thousands of hostile terrorists have been drawn to this tiny strip of land and
this graphically illustrates that this war is primarily a spiritual conflict.
The world has to make good on its promise to bring peace to this region. We
westerners must step outside of traditional politics and bring wisdom to bear on
this dilemma. The world has witnessed the destruction and folly that our naive
policies of forced coexistence have caused and we are asking the people of
Israel to do something we would never ourselves permit within our borders! A
larger danger is that by this practice, we are transmitting the message to those
terrorists that we will tolerate them wherever they may choose to infiltrate.
To move this initiative forward, we must dispense with the idea that you can
occupy the same ground with your sworn enemy. All nations have learned this
throughout the centuries. It is time to apply lessons learned from history and
invoke the rationale that was instituted from the inception of this land by the
League of Nations in the early 20th century. And we now certify the right to
life and the pursuit of happiness due the Jew and Arab from all of mankind. As
usual in these cases, the common people, both Arab and Jew, have paid the
highest price. Intervention by the rest of the world to bring this resolution
about is unavoidable. The borders must be honored again and the Jews must have
the right to defend those borders.
After two decades of hearing empty promises from the infiltrating Arab
aggressors to establish for themselves a “Palestinian” government, we must
change direction. Peace will be achieved when those who are hostile to Israel
are directed to resettle with those like-minded, who believe, live and worship
as they do. Only then will the true intentions of both parties be revealed to
the world for all to see as they are permitted to flourish independently or
dissipate on their respective sides of the borders.
It is for this reason that we of the West have volunteered to hold up our end of
the bridge and move forward this peace plan drafted by Rabbi Benjamin Elon.
